Women have more sisters

If there are two children then the possibilities are MM, FF and MF. In the first case there are no sisters, in the second each woman has a sister, and in the last case only the man has a sister. So the tally for this case is only one sister for the men but two sisters for the women.

If there are three siblings then the possibilities are: MMM, MMF, MFF and FFF. So the tally for men is 0 + 2 + 2 + 0 = 4. For the women it is 0 + 0 + 2 + 6 = 8. We again find that women have twice as many sisters as do the men.

If there are four siblings then the possibilities are: MMMM, MMMF, MMFF, MFFF and FFFF.
So the tally for men is 0 + 3 + 4 + 3 = 10.
For the women it is 0 + 0 + 2 + 6 + 12 = 20.

Does this make sense?
