Canon Gripe
I bought a Canon 30D camera in early August 2006. Since this is a high-end model, I expected it to be a high-quality machine. Unfortunately, the photos had a pronounced blue cast, especially in shadow areas. I gave it in to Canon, who admitted the fault and took three weeks to fix it. I tested it again but found that, though it was somewhat better, a blue cast was still present, unlike the other DSLRs that I have used. I gave it in to Canon again but was told by their technician that the camera was working according to specifications. He tried to convince me that it was a problem with my monitor, ignoring the fact that I had photographed a neutral grey card and analysed the RGB values of the resulting image. I wrote to the manager of the repair shop but received no reply. To make matters worse, when I finally took possession of the zoom lens I had ordered four months earlier, the Canon 30D became unusable after a few days, though it was quickly fixed. Overall, I am very unhappy with the reliability and quality control at Canon. Nor am I happy with their service. The so-called Customer Satisfaction Officer was only concerned that the correct steps as laid down in the Canon procedure manual had been followed. The fact that I still had a defective camera did not concern him.
Warning
I had a lot of trouble with my Canon Ixus camera when I used a no-name brand memory card. I ended up losing some of my shots. To make it less likely that you experience card failures I suggest you do two things. Firstly, fork out the extra dough to buy a well-known brand, such as Kingston, Transcend, Lexar or Sandisk. The second precaution is to format the card in your camera before using it for the first time.
