The Eleven Best

Those of you who are curious about my esthetic (or lack of it) may be interested to see which
images I think are my best and why. My top eleven are in order of chronology, not preference.

Tiera526aa

appeals to me not for esthetic reasons but simply because it is so unfractal, so uncannily like a science fiction spaceship. Its simplicity is unusual. Again, I can blame the little boy within. I enjoy its spareness. It is a bit of a joke, but in good taste, me thinks.

Tiera797aa

is one of my favourites because of its filigree richness, glass-like translucency, intricacy, sense of motion and receding perspective.

Tiera2538aa

strikes me as special because of its obvious power, its malign eye, the contrast between the round shape and the spiky centipedes. I also love its blue and yellow tones. Note that without the eyelid at top left it would be boring. There is a sense of lively malevolence and activity among the organic shapes at the periphery.

Tiera2963aa3

is for me an entire world, a watery planet like ours but with mysterious sources and sinks. It is a young world undergoing storms and upheavals. (It is also the flagship on my intellectual site.) Summing up, what I like best is non-random complexity that gives the impression of containing an entire world foreign to us.

Tiera3179aa

looks to me like some weird monsters emerging out of a lagoon. It appeals to me because of the sense of mystery, malevolence and movement. I also like the moon's reflection in the middle.

Tiera4034aa

shows immense power and energy streaming out. I also love the contrast between the molten glass, the crystalline effects and the harsher textures. Finally, and primarily, I love the explosive colours.

Tiera4046aa

seethes with life. I appreciate the colourful energy being generated in the middle, contrasting with the inert metallic structures that fail to contain it. The green is soothing and natural-looking, contrasting with the synthetic-looking copper. Overall I see a symbiosis of living and mechanical elements. I also like the contrast of textures and lighting. To me this fractal embodies change and creative potential (not mine, the world's). The image shows complexity and chaotic behaviour, just barely held in balance. Contrast is the key to my valuing of this fractal.

Tiera4172aa

has a complex alien geometry that includes energy emitting diamonds. I appreciate the richness of texture, its air of mystery, the strong sense of a vertical perspective, the contrast between drab greyness and the pulses of light that bleed into the dull background. Some of the streamers pulse with energy while others are inert and grey.

Tiera4414aa

contains much variety. It is the cross section of an entire living world, with the energy source at the centre erupting violently and giving rise to more structured layers, with bizarre elements at the periphery. I enjoy the yellow ochre, the shading and the contrasting bands. Of course it also has the requisite perfect circle. Tiera4414 is possibly my best.

Tiera4542aa

A luminous alien birth? Pulsating neon colour, movement, bubbles, interesting shading and insect elements.

Tiera4618aa

has mystery, complexity and an unusual colour distribution including metallic effects. There is an almost mystical depth, hinting at a world we do not know. I like the way the little disks proliferate all over, like flies at a banquet.
